In mid-December, Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan extended the moratorium on evictions for residents, small businesses, and nonprofits through March 31, 2021 (it was due to expire at the end of 2020). Landlords cannot evict any renter or small business if a lease is in progress unless there are immediate health and safety threats to the community at large. Also, no late fees, interest for non-payment of rent can be charged. Keep in mind this does not cancel any monies owed from current rent obligations. It is meant to encourage renters and landlords to negotiate payback agreements.
Governor Jay Inslee followed suit and has announced that the statewide eviction moratorium is also extended through March 31st, 2021. The details of this extension have yet to be released.
