Several news outlets in Seattle reported this week that the Seattle City Council may be taking the lead when it comes to rent control in Washington State. Following the recommendations of The Seattle Renters’ Commission, two measures were recently floated by Council-member Kshama Sawant. One regarding rent control and another following The Seattle Renters’ Commission endorsement requiring six-month notification requirements for landlords that want to raise the rent.
Oregon has recently become the leader in allowing rent control statewide. While Seattle’s move would be the first step, it would still require the lifting of the statewide band.
